Long Island Treatment Center: Medical Center in Long Island

Long Island has long been identified as a hotspot for the opioid and heroin epidemic.

According to a 2017 National Safety Council report, Long Island residents accounted for 20% of all fatal opioid overdoses in New York State, with Suffolk County alone accounting for nearly 70% of opioid-related deaths on the island that year.

Though figures have somewhat improved in recent years thanks to the rise of treatment centers and prevention strategies, Long Island still accounts for nearly 15% of all substance use disorder treatment admissions in New York today.

Long Island Treatment Center is among the few medical centers in the city that provide personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that put people struggling with addiction on the path to recovery.

Who Are We?

Long Island Treatment Center is a reputable medical center that treats a variety of substance use disorders (SUD), including addiction to opioids, alcohol, benzodiazepines, inhalants, kratom, marihuana, hallucinogens, stimulants, and more.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care that addresses the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of addiction. We work with over a dozen evidence-based treatment methods to help clients stay clean, sober, and live a healthy, fulfilling life.

Our Services

No two people have the same experience with substance dependency, which is why we take a highly individualized approach to treatment.

We look into a person’s mental health care status, background, substance use history, and personal goals when developing a treatment plan to address not just the addiction itself, but the underlying factors contributing to it.

Evidence-based Therapies

Therapy is a core component of treatment at Long Island Treatment Center. It helps patients understand the root causes of addiction and develop healthy strategies for lasting recovery.

Our medical professionals are trained in a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a goal-oriented therapy that helps people identify and modify maladaptive thought patterns that contribute to substance use. It also addresses underlying emotional and psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression, which often co-occur with addiction.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT places a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, acceptance, and mindfulness. It combines cognitive-behavioral health techniques with mindfulness practices to help clients manage intense emotions, tolerate distress, and develop self-acceptance.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy guides couples in developing healthier ways to express emotions, resolve conflicts, and support each other’s abstinence efforts.

The goal is to establish healthy boundaries, rebuild emotional bonds, and develop problem-solving skills that benefit the relationship.

Family Therapy

Family therapy involves loved ones in the healing process and improves relationships among family members.

Preventing relapse starts with a strong support system, and family therapy helps build that foundation by addressing past and present conflicts, fostering open communication, and educating family members about addiction and recovery.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to share experiences, offer mutual support, and learn from others who are also on the path to recovery.

Sessions are guided by a licensed therapist who encourages honest discussions and helps participants develop social and coping skills needed for long-term sobriety.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a personalized one-on-one treatment wherein a therapist helps a client understand their underlying issues, process emotions, and develop strategies to solve them.

Therapists use various approaches depending on the individual’s needs, including CBT, DBT, humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Telehealth

Also known as virtual therapy, telehealth offers flexible, remote access to licensed therapists.

Teletherapy is especially suited for those balancing work, school, or other obligations, as well as those who struggle with disabilities, phobias, and other psychological issues that make a patient hesitant to seek in-person treatment.

Inpatient Programs

Inpatient programs provide structured, live-in care for patients who need intensive, daily support. They offer a safe space away from triggers, distractions, and temptations, allowing them to focus all their effort on recovery.

  • Inpatient Treatment: Offers 24/7 medical and clinical care for individuals struggling with severe addiction or co-occurring mental health conditions. Inpatient treatment is highly structured and doesn’t usually last more than a few weeks. Once the patient is stable, he/she is moved to residential treatment.
  • Residential Treatment: A live-in environment where patients receive consistent support and therapy. Residents follow a structured schedule and participate in individual therapy, group therapy, and therapeutic activities that promote emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
  • Long-term Drug Rehab: Designed for individuals with chronic addiction or multiple relapses. This program involves a stay of 90 days or more and focuses on in-depth therapy, lifestyle changes, and relapse prevention.

Outpatient Programs

Outpatient programs are conducted in an outpatient treatment setting, typically at home or in a sober living environment. Our treatment includes:

  • Outpatient detox: A medically-assisted detox that allows patients to withdraw from substances safely without overnight stays.
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP): A highly structured day program that provides intensive therapy and medical monitoring during the day and returning home at night. Ideal for individuals transitioning from inpatient care.
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP): Provides focused therapy more than once a week. Suitable for patients who need continued support but not full-time supervision. Sessions include individual therapy, group therapy, and relapse prevention.
  • Evening IOP: Offers the same structure as daytime IOP, except held in the evenings to accommodate work, school, or family responsibilities.
  • Aftercare program: Ongoing support following the completion of a formal treatment program. It includes continued therapy, relapse prevention planning, and regular check-ins to support long-term sobriety.

Specialized Treatment Programs

Our specialized treatment program aims to meet the clinical, personal, and sometimes spiritual aspects of healing. They can be used by themselves or as part of a broader treatment plan.

  • 12-step Treatment: Follows the 12-step program developed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The program is run by individuals who have lived experience with addiction and have recovered successfully through the 12-step approach.
  • Dual diagnosis program: Designed for patients struggling with both substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders. This program treats both conditions simultaneously, with treatment plans built to support each other.
  • Medication-assisted treatment (MAT): Combines FDA-approved addiction medicine like Suboxone or Vivitrol with behavioral therapies to treat opioid or alcohol addiction. MAT helps reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms, and improve treatment retention.
